About the Role

The Senior Analyst in Insurance Policy and Regulation will play a key role in advancing the interests of the life and health insurance industry by optimizing the policy, legislative, and regulatory environment related to the distribution of insurance and marketplace regulation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with provincial insurance regulators and governments to build consensus on industry policy positions.
  • Contribute to or prepare submissions or other briefings to advance the industry's interests with insurance regulators, government, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of key areas, including life and health insurance company practices, government and regulator initiatives, and the regulatory frameworks affecting the distribution of the industry's products.
  • Monitor external developments, including changes in government policy, regulatory changes, and media trends.
  • Contribute to and support industry guidelines and reference documents related to distribution and market conduct.
  • Support the planning and execution of relevant CLHIA conferences and other education programs.
Requirements
  • University degree in a related field, such as economics, policy, public administration, or law.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a compliance, policy, or legal role in the financial services sector, with prior life and health insurance experience preferred.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to problem-solve and quickly get up to speed on highly complex and technical issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage competing and changing priorities, including those with tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of policy and legislative processes, especially those involving provincial and territorial governments.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex information into clear and straightforward language.
  • Proven ability to manage and build effective relationships with insurance company staff, government officials, and industry stakeholders.
Assets
  • Knowledge of life and health insurance industry products and practices related to distribution through intermediaries.
  • Knowledge of industry distribution oversight and monitoring practices.
  • Experience with member-based organizations.
  • Experience participating in and supporting committees/working groups.
  • Experience with individual variable insurance contract products, such as segregated funds products.
  • Experience planning programs for events and conferences.
  • Bilingual (English/French) or ability to read and speak some French.
