Position Overview
- Shkaabe Makwa at CAMH is recognized as the first hospital-based Centre in Canada dedicated to fostering culturally-responsive systems initiatives aimed at achieving health equity and wellness for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis populations. This is accomplished through the advancement of research, workforce development, and innovative healing models that integrate traditional knowledge with medical expertise.
- The Senior Health Policy Analyst position, under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives at Shkaabe Makwa, is centered on spearheading policy formulation and analysis concerning cultural safety, reconciliation efforts, and the combat against anti-Indigenous racism within the healthcare framework.
- Key responsibilities encompass nurturing senior-level connections with governmental bodies that influence the healthcare landscape for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, while remaining informed about public policies that impact their health and overall well-being.
- This role necessitates close collaboration with CAMH's senior leadership to coordinate expert input, formulate policies, and incorporate external expertise to benefit Shkaabe Makwa and CAMH.
- Particularly, this position aids in the evaluation of existing CAMH policies, emphasizing First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultural safety, anti-Indigenous racism, and reconciliation principles across Clinical Care, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Operations Policy Committees.
- Operational duties involve the prompt review and amendment of policies and procedures, engaging with key stakeholders, crafting tools for policy assessments, and leading policy development to advocate for Shkaabe Makwa.
- Qualifications: The ideal candidate is required to be First Nations, Inuit, or Métis, holding a Master's degree in health, public policy, social services, community development, planning, or public health, along with a minimum of five years of pertinent experience. A profound understanding of the traditions, cultures, and values of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis is crucial, coupled with expertise in trauma-informed care, healing practices, policy analysis, training facilitation, and establishing collaborations with Indigenous-focused organizations.
- Experience in policy analysis, development, and the promotion of cultural safety and wellness for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis is essential, alongside the capability to engage with diverse partners and travel within Ontario, including remote First Nations.
