About the Role

This Senior Waste Management Specialist position plays a critical role in advancing Nova Scotia's solid waste resource management strategies and commitments to reducing the provincial solid waste disposal rate.

As a key member of the Department of Environment and Climate Change, you will work closely with government bodies, NGOs, private sector stakeholders, associations, and academia to develop and implement effective waste reduction initiatives.

Your expertise will help shape regulatory frameworks, policies, and programs that foster environmental stewardship and public engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of solid waste resource strategies and regulations.
  • Develop and deliver correspondence and briefing materials, including training, to internal and external audiences.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders to advance common areas of interest and work towards harmonization of regulatory/policy approaches.
  • Oversee the solid waste resource management program, providing direction and support to program staff and advising senior management on strategic waste reduction initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field with six years of relevant experience focused on solid waste resource management and/or regulation.

You will possess expert-level knowledge of local, national, and international waste reduction strategies, standards, legislation, regulations, and policies.

Able to lead complex problem-solving, balancing multiple priorities, and incorporating multiple viewpoints into issue analysis.
