Job Overview:

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a skilled professional to fill the position of Solid Waste Resources Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of the municipality's solid waste management system, which includes the development of business plans and budgets, operations, compliance with environmental approvals, and contract management.

About the Role:

This role requires a leader who can provide strategic direction and guidance for the effective operation of the HRM solid waste management system. Key responsibilities include preparing and implementing annual business plans, overseeing operating and capital budgets, managing multi-year contracts, and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need a Master's degree or University Degree in Business Administration or Public Administration, or Environmental Science, or related Engineering field. You must also have minimum 7 years' senior management experience preferably in a municipal environment in positions of progressive responsibility, as well as minimum 7 years' experience with solid waste management systems or related field. Contract and project management experience will be considered an asset.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of municipal policies and procedures and knowledge of business planning and budget preparation.
  • Technical knowledge of modern solid waste/resource management systems;
  • Knowledge and experience in public presentations and media relations;

Salary: Estimated salary range $123,000 - $168,000 per year based on the location and industry standards.
