About the Opportunity:

This senior role combines practical forest management experience with strategic operational responsibilities. You will contribute 50% of your time to hands-on forest management activities and 50% to supporting the COO in overseeing company operations. This is an ideal position for an ambitious individual seeking to develop both practical skills and strategic expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Forest Management Duties (50%):

  • Develop and implement strategic harvesting plans.
  • Oversee road construction, maintenance, and related tasks.
  • Manage wood product marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Supervise planting, early competition control, and pre-commercial thinning.
  • Secure public funding for projects.
  • Conduct thorough stumpage and land valuations.
  • Utilize technology like GPS, drones, and GIS software.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and regulations.
  • Foster relationships with landowners, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

COO Support Duties (50%):

  • Support the COO in developing and executing company operations.
  • Assist in cross-departmental planning and coordination.
  • Contribute to company-wide strategy development.
  • Manage projects to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Build strong client relationships.
  • Participate in regular meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.
Requirements

We seek a qualified candidate with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of forestry operations experience.
  • Experience in a support or junior management role.
  • Strong understanding of forest management principles.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Industry network and experience marketing wood products.
  • Ability to engage with landowners and manage land acquisition.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant technologies.
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and reliable vehicle.
  • Current Canadian residency and valid work permit.
Compensation

Competitive salary: $95,000 - $115,000 per year.
