Hazardous Materials Compliance Specialist

This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the National Fire Code of Canada at the University of Regina.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely receipt, distribution, and storage of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
- Create and distribute workplace labels for hazardous products as required.
- Manage, reconcile, and maintain hazardous product inventories across campus using the U of R chemical inventory database.
- Provide assessments and recommendations for chemical purchases made by lab personnel.
- Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures focused on chemical storage, quantity, compatibility, and regulatory compliance.
- Educate stakeholders on proper chemical storage, identify compatibility issues, and other hazards associated with chemical materials.
- Write reports on deficiencies found and provide consultation on required remediation activities.
- Analyze data related to chemical storage practices, processes, and policies.
The University of Regina offers a competitive compensation package including a salary range of $65,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience. Additional benefits include Health/Dental/Vision Benefits, flexible spending account, Defined Contribution Pension Plan, and more.
Requirements and Qualifications- Undergraduate degree in science, engineering, or an equivalent degree.
- A combination of education or experience in a directly related field such as Occupational Health & Safety or WHMIS coordination may be considered.
- Knowledge of chemical safety and WHMIS regulations.
- Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, and administrative skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in ensuring accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, faculty, and employees.
