Job Overview

The Senior Underwriter - Commercial Lines plays a critical role in analyzing complex business risks and making informed decisions to ensure the company's guidelines are met. This position requires collaboration with the sales force and providing expert advice to policyholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments using technology and external data sources to quote, negotiate, and authorize risk acceptance.
  • Arrange reinsurance or subscribing companies as necessary.
  • Determine policy renewal eligibility based on company guidelines and retention goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of decisions and policy data.
  • Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for insurance policies, processes, regulations, and audit.
  • Mentor and train less experienced team members.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews.
  • Support business change development and implementation.
  • Ensure efficient handling of work assignments, including calls.
  • Influence team members to achieve team goals.
  • Foster positive relationships with internal and external parties.

Qualifications

  • Five years of Property and Casualty industry experience.
  • Post-secondary education or related business experience.
  • Completed or pursuing a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
