About the Opportunity

The Reproductive Health Program at IWK Health Centre is seeking a highly skilled Perinatal Nurse Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our program, you will provide leadership and expertise in perinatal care, working closely with healthcare professionals across the province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to provincial and national committees, ensuring best practices in perinatal care are implemented and maintained.
  • Lead perinatal quality reviews in all regional centres, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies for enhancement.
  • Develop and provide education programs and provincial orientation, ensuring healthcare professionals have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care.
  • Determine priorities through data analysis and trend identification, ensuring the program's goals and objectives are met.
  • Implement provincial resources that reflect current best practices and national standards, ensuring consistency and quality across the province.
  • Create and implement evidence-based guidelines and professional practice resources, ensuring healthcare professionals have access to the latest information and research.
  • Provide practice support and advice to interprofessional teams of health professionals, ensuring they have the necessary expertise to provide high-quality care.
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving standards and best practices, ensuring the program remains current and effective.
  • Collaborate closely with medical advisors, data analysts, and other stakeholders to support healthcare professionals and administrators in setting priorities and organizing care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master of Nursing or related field completed or in progress required.
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia required.
  • Minimum five years' experience in perinatal nursing with operational or practice leadership experience.
  • Minimum three years' progressive leadership experience, including advanced practice roles or leadership development.
  • CNA Perinatal Nurse certification an asset.
  • Current successful completion of CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
  • Recent clinical experience in supporting laboring and birthing women essential.
  • Experience in both hospital and community-based practice preferred.
  • Experience with the provincial health system considered an asset.
  • Certification in Instructor Level for Neonatal Resuscitation program, Fetal Health Surveillance, and Acute Care at Risk Newborns is considered an asset.
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills essential.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with diverse skill sets and perspectives required.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Sound knowledge of maternal and infant healthcare across the continuum essential.
  • Familiarity with utilizing perinatal and population health data an asset.
  • Experience with delivering, facilitating, and organizing education programs an asset.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and clean driver's abstract required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
