Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Director to lead our Enterprise Applications team at the City of Toronto. As a key member of our IT leadership team, you will be responsible for directing the development and maintenance of complex business applications and information systems that support the City's critical business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and oversight to the Enterprise Applications team, ensuring the successful delivery of large-scale projects and the maintenance of existing applications.
  • Business Analysis: Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and develop solutions that meet their needs.
  • Project Management: Lead and/or participate in project management processes, including the evaluation and recommendation of technical solutions and professional services.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply your expertise in Java, J2EE, Spring MVC, WebSphere, SQL, and other relevant technologies to develop and maintain complex business applications.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure that all applications and systems are secure, compliant with relevant legislation and standards, and meet the City's information and technology policies.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with business stakeholders, project team members, and other orders of government and external parties to ensure successful project outcomes.
Requirements
  • Education: Post-secondary education in computer science or a related discipline, or the approved equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience: Extensive experience in Java, J2EE, Spring MVC, WebSphere, SQL, and other relevant technologies, as well as experience in business system analysis, rapid application development, and programming in a large, diverse computing environment.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to work with competing demands, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

  • Unix Shell Scripting: Experience with Unix shell scripting is an asset.
  • Progress OpenEdge: Experience with Progress OpenEdge is an asset.
  • Microsoft SQL Server: Experience with Microsoft SQL Server is an asset.
  • Public Sector Experience: Experience in the public sector and/or the licensing and permitting industry is an asset.
