Urban Planning Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a key member of our planning department, you will play a critical role in reviewing and evaluating complex development applications, ensuring that they align with our city's planning and municipal objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate complex development applications, including subdivisions, condominiums, and rezoning requests.
- Determine whether environmental assessments or environmental impact statements are required.
- Negotiate planning requirements and conditions to resolve disputes and policy interpretations.
- Write reports to management, committees, and council, identifying and evaluating alternatives, formulating conclusions, and recommending the preferred course of action.
- Present and defend development applications and associated recommendations to committees and council.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in land use planning.
- Strong knowledge of zoning by-laws and development planning.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of skill in research, oral and written communications, and interpersonal relations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and liaise with stakeholders, including applicants, developers, and community groups.
