About This Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Corporate Legal Director to join our team. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), this role will lead the corporate legal services and research legal services teams, providing comprehensive legal counsel and support to CAMH.

The successful candidate will develop and implement legal strategies, advise on complex healthcare regulations, multi-party research agreements, and contracts, while managing legal risk associated with the hospital's operations.

This critical role will provide strategic advice and oversight for various operational matters, including compliance, business administration, contracts, and legal proceedings.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Ontario's healthcare laws, corporate/commercial transactions, health privacy, research, and knowledge of the Ontario health sector.

This individual will work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team, Research leadership, and senior management to bring issues to resolution.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal counsel on corporate matters, procurement, information technology, privacy, research, and other operational contracts.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, legal templates, and work processes for the hospital's corporate and research legal services portfolio.
  • Manage a team of lawyers and legal support staff.
  • Collaborate with the CLO to inform the broader legal services portfolio management.
  • Work with senior management to align legal strategies with CAMH's mission, vision, values, and organizational goals.
  • Represent CAMH in legal proceedings and negotiations, or provide instructions to external counsel.
  • Support CAMH's compliance with federal and provincial laws and regulations.
  • Conduct legal risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.

About You

You will be a seasoned legal professional with significant experience in leadership roles, ideally in the healthcare sector. Your excellent communication skills, collaborative approach, and ability to find practical solutions will make you an asset to our team.

A strong understanding of corporate law, health research law, privacy, data law, procurement law, governance practices, and the healthcare landscape is essential.

Candidates with at least 8-10 years of legal experience and leadership background are preferred.

Your compensation package includes an estimated annual salary of $150,000-$200,000, depending on your qualifications and experience. This estimate reflects the requirements and responsibilities outlined in the job description.
