We are seeking a Recreation Therapy Associate to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a member of our healthcare team, you will provide support to clients and families through the application of recreation intervention to support holistic functioning.

About You

We are looking for an individual with a post-secondary diploma in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution. You should have experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities and be able to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide interventions to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, related to the client's leisure needs and overall plan of care.
  • Practice in adherence to practice standards and scope of employment.
  • Assist in the plan, develop, implement and evaluation of Recreation programs.
  • Use effective listening and communication skills to motivate patients/veterans.
  • Be adaptable and flexible in changing patient populations and/or worksites.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution.
  • BLS - C certification.
  • Experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to assist in the plan, develop, implement and evaluation of Recreation programs.
  • Effective listening and communication skills; ability to motivate patients/veterans.
  • Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills to changing patient populations and/or worksites.
  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
  • Ability to understand medical terminology used in a clinical area, and use within the documentation.
