Vocal Department Head

The Victoria Conservatory of Music seeks a highly skilled and experienced Head of Voice to lead the Vocal Department and its faculty in an artistic, academic, and administrative capacity. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in vocal pedagogy, performance, and collaboration, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The Head of Voice will be responsible for providing artistic leadership for the Voice Collegium and other integrated programs, as well as supervising the delivery of all voice programs at the VCM's downtown and Greater Victoria locations. They will also advise the Director of the Department of Postsecondary Studies on artistic and academic matters related to voice program components.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading through collaboration and facilitation, with a strong commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Reconciliation in the arts. They will be well-established as a vocal pedagogue, performer, and collaborator, with administrative skills related to the day-to-day operations of a music department.
The Head of Voice will be a contributing member of the VCM's Artistic Directorate Committee, attending and contributing to all meetings, and will also be a member of the Artistic Team for the annual Spark to Flame event.
The successful candidate will be responsible for scheduling and chairing regular faculty meetings, organizing and coordinating annual song competitions and end-of-term recitals, and managing the scheduling and payment for department-related accompanist services.
They will also act as liaison between the CSCM Voice Faculty and VCM Administration, mitigating instructor-student/parent disagreements, and administering the Faculty Teaching Assessment Program for the Voice Department.
The Head of Voice will provide guidance to Voice Faculty on professional development opportunities and refer new students to voice faculty in a fair and equitable manner. They will also administer the Voice Department budget and organize voice students and/or faculty performers for VCM fundraising events.
The ideal candidate will maintain a public profile as a performer, clinician, and adjudicator, helping to attract advanced students, new faculty, and guest clinicians to the department.
The Victoria Conservatory of Music is a centre for excellence and enjoyment of music through education, performance, and wellness, serving its community of over 4,500 students and music therapy clients of all ages. The VCM is a non-profit, charitable organization located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, operating in the traditional territories of the Songhees, Esquimalt, W̱SÁNEĆ, and Beecher Bay Nations.
