About the Department and Role

The Central Academic Advising Office (D101) is a dynamic team that provides support to Mount Royal University students. As a Registration Peer, you will play a crucial role in helping students navigate the university's registration systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming and friendly environment for students in person and virtually
  • Respond to emails in the advising inbox flagged for Registration Peers
  • Maintain an online booking schedule aligned with scheduled shifts
  • Track walk-in and virtual appointments as directed
  • Assist students in navigating MyMRU, My Schedule Builder, and the Registration Landing Page
  • Be familiar with and refer students to use the online advising guides and mruGradU8
  • Support students in creating a course schedule that considers their academic and personal needs
  • Understand the knowledge and expertise of Academic Advisors and refer appropriately
  • Make meaningful referrals to campus resources based on student needs
  • Provide students with clear and accurate information while refraining from answering unknown or incomplete questions
  • Facilitate registration information sessions to groups of students as assigned
  • Assist with other duties and projects within Academic Advising as needed

Qualifications

  • Comfortable navigating MRU's electronic resources, including the MRU website, MyMRU, mruGradU8, and My Schedule Builder
  • Enthusiasm to work with fellow students and a strong desire to help them succeed
  • Awareness and understanding of the various campus resources available for students
  • Strong presentation skills and comfortable creating and delivering presentations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective communication skills
  • Current MRU student in good academic standing
