About the Department and Role

The Central Academic Advising Office is responsible for providing support to students navigating the registration process. As a Registration Peer, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment for students and assisting them in navigating our registration systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to students, creating a welcoming and friendly environment in person and virtually.
  • Respond to emails in the advising inbox, addressing student inquiries and concerns.
  • Maintain an online booking schedule, ensuring alignment with scheduled shifts.
  • Track walk-in and virtual appointments, as directed.
  • Assist students in navigating MyMRU, My Schedule Builder, and the Registration Landing Page.
  • Refer students to online advising guides and mruGradU8, ensuring they have access to relevant resources.
  • Support students in creating a course schedule that meets their academic and personal needs, in consultation with their Academic Advisor.
  • Understand the expertise of Academic Advisors and refer students accordingly.
  • Make meaningful referrals to campus resources, based on student needs.
  • Provide clear and accurate information to students, while avoiding answers that may be incomplete or unknown.
  • Facilitate registration information sessions for groups of students, as assigned.
  • Assist with other duties and projects within Academic Advising, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable navigating MRU's electronic resources, including the MRU website, MyMRU, mruGradU8, the Registration Landing page, and My Schedule Builder.
  • Enthusiasm for working with fellow students and a strong desire to support their success.
  • Awareness and understanding of campus resources available to students.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to create and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Current MRU student in good academic standing.
