Job Summary:

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a skilled Assistant Utility System Technician to join our Public Works team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of water meters, as well as assisting in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the water and sewage system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair, maintain, and install water meters
  • Assist in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the water and sewage system
  • Provide assistance in cleaning and maintenance of plants, work areas, and equipment

Requirements:

  • Grade 10 level of education
  • Valid class 5 Nunavut Driver's License
  • Proficient working with numerical data and efficient, practical computer knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently
  • Additional training and certifications in a related field
  • Related experience within a Municipal setting
  • Experience working in piped water/sewage
  • Ability to communicate in both Inuktitut and English

Working Conditions:

The incumbent must be willing to work in harsh outdoor weather conditions and confined spaces with obnoxious odors caused by waste. The candidate must also be willing to participate in training and other safety-related courses within the first 6 months of employment.
