Job Summary

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is seeking a skilled Workplace Essential Skills Trainer to join our team. As a key member of our instructional staff, you will be responsible for delivering classroom and workplace instruction that facilitates the learning of employability and workplace essential skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and deliver instructional programs that meet the needs of adult learners.
  • Conduct career and essential skills assessments using tools such as TOWES, WESA, SII, and MBTI.
  • Debrief assessments with learners and assist them in developing realistic goals to increase their skill sets.
  • Prepare individual learning plans relevant to learners' career goals.
  • Research and utilize instructional strategies and resources to maximize learners' acquisition of workplace essential skills.
  • Instruct learners in job search techniques such as resume writing and interview skills.
  • Assist in finding appropriate educational options and/or work placements for learners.
  • Facilitate the evaluation of learners' workplace performance and provide feedback.
  • Manage an adult-centered learning environment, establish rapport, encourage aspirations, and facilitate problem-solving in a non-threatening environment.
  • Complete and maintain student records; prepare statistics; ensure a system for effective utilization of instructional materials and other resources.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Master's degree in Education or a related field with a preference for studies in adult education and/or adult literacy and/or workplace training.
  • Experience in adult literacy, workplace training, and transition to work programming.
  • Knowledge of career planning and experience in using career assessments.
  • Qualified to administer TOWES.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare individual and group learning plans that lead to the development of employability and workplace essential skills.
  • Experience in instruction of job search techniques.
  • Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software, and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with learners and employers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and personal management skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
