Child Protection Specialist

Kunuwanimano Child and Family Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Protection Worker to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will provide essential services to First Nations children and families, promoting their well-being and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Provide culturally sensitive and respectful services to First Nations children and families, adhering to our agency's policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant communities to explore service options and strategies for addressing issues affecting First Nations children and families.
- Assess and investigate allegations of child abuse and/or maltreatment, intervening in crisis situations as needed.
- Advocate for children and families to access support services within the community.
- Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and service objectives, including performing other duties as required.
- Coordinate customary care and society placements, preparing necessary documents and supporting the child and family throughout the process.
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree with previous child welfare experience in First Nations communities or 2 years of social service experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Completion of OACAS New Worker Training Modules preferred.
- Valid Ontario Driver's license, willingness to travel, and ability to work flexible hours and provide on-call services when required.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Ability to speak an indigenous language considered a major asset.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiating, decision-making, planning, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills.
