Child Protection Specialist

Kunuwanimano Child & Family Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced Child Protection Investigator to join our team.
In this crucial role, you will play a vital part in safeguarding the well-being of children within our community. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including families, law enforcement agencies, and social service providers, to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals.
Responsibilities- Conduct thorough investigations into reports of child abuse and neglect, working closely with the Intake Team to manage high-risk cases effectively.
- Collaborate with law enforcement officials on joint investigations and home visits, ensuring a coordinated approach to addressing complex situations.
- Engage in sensitive interviews with involved parties, including children, parents, and witnesses, to gather crucial information and assess the safety of the child.
- Develop comprehensive safety and treatment plans based on your assessments, working collaboratively with families to implement these plans and promote their well-being.
- Connect families with a range of support services, such as counseling, parenting classes, and financial assistance, to address their needs and enhance their resilience.
- Coordinate court requirements, prepare families for service transfers, and provide testimony in legal proceedings when necessary.
- Work closely with First Nation Communities to understand and address the unique challenges they face, ensuring culturally sensitive and appropriate interventions.
- Manage high-risk files with a focus on early intervention strategies, aiming to prevent further harm and promote positive outcomes for children and families.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all investigations, interviews, and case activities, adhering to established protocols and legal requirements.
- Provide supervisory support within the department as needed, mentoring and guiding colleagues to ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery.
- A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the child welfare field.
- Proven experience working in a high-pressure forensic environment, conducting sensitive investigations and interviews.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current legislation and best practices related to child protection, particularly within First Nation Communities.
