Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist I is a critical care specialist responsible for providing respiratory care to patients on Adult ICU/Floors at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. This role involves assessing patients, developing and implementing respiratory therapy care plans, and monitoring progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and develop respiratory therapy care plans
  • Provide respiratory care to patients on Adult ICU/Floors
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to enhance clinical outcomes
  • Train and assist healthcare providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment
  • Educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment, and treatments
Requirements
  • Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA)
  • Graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC)
  • Maintaining current basic life support (BLS-HCP) certification and providing proof of active certification annually
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current acute care experience in a tertiary teaching hospital
  • Orientation to the position's major and minor clinical areas
  • Current charge therapist experience
  • Experience precepting students, developing quality initiatives, and implementing practice change
  • Active participation on committees
