Your Opportunity:

This role is integral to the Alberta Health Services Sleep Disorders Laboratory and the associated Sleep Disorders clinic, functioning as a clinical expert in respiratory therapy. The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for orchestrating comprehensive care for patients enrolled in the Sleep Disorders program. By exemplifying exceptional patient care, the RT II leads by example, providing ongoing education to peers and enhancing the roles and responsibilities of Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) within the department. The RT II is accountable to the Program's Medical Director(s) and Clinical Manager, ensuring the delivery of high-quality respiratory therapy services.

The RT II serves as an alternative care provider, independently triaging, assessing, managing, and evaluating patient care prior to the initial assessment by Respiratory Physicians, and continues to provide follow-up care. This position involves clinical leadership, collaborating with all staff members to address patient assessment, treatment, and follow-up challenges. The RT II organizes the delivery of respiratory care within designated programs, ensuring that care plans are effectively communicated and documented. Active participation as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team is essential, working closely with the Clinical Manager, physicians, and other team members to achieve program goals related to respiratory care. The RT II is committed to ongoing professional development, engaging in educational programs and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Respiratory Therapist II, your primary duties will include:

  • Coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating clinical services in your designated area.
  • Acting as a clinical resource for daily operations, overseeing therapy assessments and treatments.
  • Developing and implementing respiratory therapy care plans while tracking patient progress.
  • Identifying equipment needs and maintaining adequate supplies for your area.
  • Managing respiratory equipment, including its operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance.
  • Participating in interprofessional rounds, conferences, and relevant meetings.
Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience in critical care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) within the last five years is preferred.
