Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to join our team at BC Cancer in Kelowna. As a Unit Clerk, you will play a critical role in providing administrative support to our healthcare team, ensuring the smooth operation of our Ambulatory Care Unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe and process clinician orders, completing and forwarding requisitions for tests or services, and scheduling appointments using our electronic health record system.
- Organize diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients, coordinating interrelated appointments and preparing related instructions for patients.
- Gather patient information for medical appointments, facilitating efficient patient flow and preparing documents for the clinical team.
- Perform receptionist duties, including greeting and registering patients, answering the telephone, and responding to inquiries.
- Participate in the onboarding and orientation of staff, demonstrating work procedures and answering related queries.
Requirements
- Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to keyboard 40 wpm.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports.
