Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization and drive our mission forward. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leadership, strategic planning, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Strategic Direction: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to advance our mission and protect the Salish Sea.
  2. Program Development and Implementation: Oversee impactful environmental programs and initiatives centered on community power, system transformation, and engagement and awareness building.
  3. Team Leadership and Management: Lead a diverse team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and empowering work environment, mentoring, and promoting professional development among staff.
  4. Financial Management and Fundraising: Work with finance and fundraising teams to ensure sound financial management, appropriate funding, and continued financial sustainability.
  5. External Relations and Communications: Serve as a spokesperson for Georgia Strait Alliance, enhancing the organization's public profile and relationships with media, donors, and key partners.
  6. Collaboration and Governance: Collaborate with the Board of Directors and provide regular updates on key performance indicators and outcomes to support transparency and accountability.
Requirements and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of senior leadership experience in a non-profit or community-based organization, with a background in marine conservation, environmental sustainability, public policy, or a related field. Key attributes include a proven ability to inspire and manage a diverse team combined with a strong commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

What We Offer

Georgia Strait Alliance offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of marine conservation through systems transformation, social justice, and community mobilization. We foster a culture of creativity and innovation, dedicated to social justice, equity, diversity, decolonization, and inclusion (JEDDI). The Executive Director role offers a base salary of $100,000 annually for a four-day work week, participation in group extended health benefits and insurance, and annual paid vacation. The position offers a hybrid and/or remote work arrangement, with organizational and program-related travel being essential.
