About the Opportunity

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Fire Chief to join our team. As a key member of our fire service, you will play a critical role in planning, coordinating, and directing the operation of the Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR).

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise preventative maintenance and ensure the provision of materials and services required for the operation of buildings, apparatus, equipment, and property of the TBFR.
  • Manage TBFR operations and personnel, evaluating employees and emergency operations.
  • Participate in developing, administering, and maintaining TBFR policies and procedures, consistent with Corporate and Divisional objectives.
  • Participate in the development of annual operating budget for TBFR and participate in budget administration and control.
  • Prepare information, reports, letters, and memoranda, and attend Council/Committee meetings, public hearings, and other public meetings as required.
Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in fire service administration, public administration, business administration, or other related discipline.
  • Minimum five years of progressive senior-level experience in fire services.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) qualifications.
  • Successful completion of NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualification Level III and must obtain Level IV within one year of employment.
  • Successful completion of NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Level I.
  • Successful completion of NFPA 1035 Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator/Public Information Officer Level I.
