Job Summary

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Controller to join our team at SMBC Canada Branch. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining financial controls, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain financial controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the business, including financial planning and analysis
  • Lead and manage the Accounting team at Canada Branch
  • Represent SMBC Canada Branch in discussions with SMBC AD and lead the implementation of regional accounting projects/initiatives

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in finance, accounting, mathematics, or business discipline plus CPA/CA designation
  • 3 years prior experience with one of the big 4 audit firms in Canada
  • 3 years accounting experience with a bank, preferably a Schedule III bank in Canada
  • 2 years prior experience leading and managing a team
  • Prior experience and knowledge of taxation, regulatory reporting, and hedge accounting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrate knowledge of financial instruments and complex transactions to establish effective controls for existing and new business
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, expectations, and business impacts
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Result-oriented and attention to details, including excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Strong knowledge and experience in use of computerized accounting systems and use of spreadsheets
