Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a results-driven professional to join our team as a Hydroelectric Operating Technician Trainee in Niagara. This two-year program combines classroom and field training to equip you with the skills and knowledge to operate and maintain hydroelectric equipment safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out operating and monitoring activities to ensure the safe and reliable operation of all assigned equipment, generators, control dams, and related facilities.
  • Recognize abnormalities, inefficiencies, and hazards, and take corrective action.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal and external organizations to comply with policy, procedural, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in good housekeeping, emergency preparedness, and fire prevention practices.
  • Recommend solutions to planning and scheduling issues created by emerging and unplanned events.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-Year post-secondary diploma in Electrical, Hydraulics, or Power Generation area of study, or 2-Year post-secondary diploma plus minimum two years operating experience working in a hydroelectric or other power plant setting.
  • Experience of a practical nature, preferably associated with operating, electrical, or mechanical trades.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a team environment.
