Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Ontario Power Generation in Niagara. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for performing maintenance tasks on hydroelectric generating station components, including general site maintenance, heavy equipment operation, hoisting and rigging, snow clearing, lawn maintenance, dam safety & public safety, and general tasks to support our ongoing operations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform routine maintenance activities on hydroelectric generating station components, including but not limited to:
    • Installation, fabrication, commissioning, inspection, troubleshooting, servicing, testing, and overhauling of equipment and components;
    • Carrying out tasks applying the trade skills of carpentry, plumbing, painting, welding, masonry, lagging & insulating, scaffolding, lubrication, and general maintenance;
    • Rigging and craning using both fixed and mobile cranes; attending to general maintenance and inspection of this equipment;
    • Maintaining and operating machines and shop tools required to carry out work assignments;
    • Operating forklifts and trucks;
    • Performing lock-out / tag-out activities up to the level trained;
    • Carrying out contract monitoring, including inspections to ensure effective quality assurance associated with maintenance or installation of new or replacement of existing systems;
    • Preparing mechanical and civil sketches, and bills of material; carrying out document maintenance activities;
    • Performing public safety inspections and maintenance activities to maintain effective control devices such as signage, fencing, booms and buoys;
    • Accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others, in accordance with technical operating procedures and standards;
    • Carrying out good housekeeping, safety and fire prevention practices in the performance of his/her work.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A minimum 5 years experience and/or skills in a variety of trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, welding, concreting, erection of scaffolding and general maintenance is preferred;
  • Experience with, and ability to work from blueprints, written specifications, and oral instructions is an asset;
  • Heavy Equipment Operator experience is preferred, specifically hands on experience with excavators, backhoes and skid steers;
  • Prior experience and knowledge in the operation of power & hand tools, and equipment related to the trade;
  • Ability to work at heights and in confining spaces;
  • Valid G Drivers License in good standing;
  • Class D-Z Drivers Licence is considered an asset;

What We Offer
