Job Summary: The Research Assistant will work with the research team to plan, implement, analyze, and translate various hepatitis C (HCV) and primary health care studies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supports recruitment for studies, screening, and enrolment
  • Supports the collection of data through surveys and interviews
  • Performs various study administration tasks, including supporting ethics review processes, developing protocols, cleaning data, and preparing grant applications
  • Collects backup source documentation as required
  • Develops, updates, and maintains study databases and source document worksheets
  • Maintains strict confidentiality related to identification and release of study data
  • Conducts literature reviews and assists in the development of research projects and associated documents

Requirements:

Education, Training, and Experience:

University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Health Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy), and 1 to 3 years previous research experience working in the healthcare field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with and/or clear understanding of the Downtown East Side neighbourhood, the population, and the clients we serve
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organization skills
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesis
  • Knowledge of health research design and protocol development
  • Experience interacting with under-served patients or clients
  • Clear ability to establish rapport with clients, communicate clearly, be a good listener, and have the ability to assess a situation and respond accordingly
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Computer competency with Microsoft Office Software, Reference Manager or related software, and familiarity with e-mail and Internet
  • Knowledge of HIV, HCV, and social determinants of health is an asset
