Job Summary

This position supports research activities within the Mood Disorders Centre at UBC Hospital.

The Department of Psychiatry is a large department within the Faculty of Medicine with over 1000 members, including faculty, staff, and students. The department's medical education programs are widespread within the faculty, and funding is a mix of operating funds, research grants, and external partnership funding.

This position works in the Mood Disorders Clinic and a laboratory on-site.

Organizational Status

The Research Assistant reports to Dr. Kamyar Keramatian, the Principal Investigator. The Research Assistant interacts with other research staff and members of other departments within UBC Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Screening and recruiting research participants; coordinating appointments for participants
  2. Transcribing patient data into study report forms, performing data entry
  3. Preparing protocol materials and applications, including consents, ethics, and patient information sheets
  4. Completing literature reviews and internet searches, retrieving articles from the library
  5. Maintaining study records in good order, including filing and photocopying
  6. Preparing PowerPoint presentations as needed
  7. Performing other related duties as required

Requirements

  • High school graduation, additional training in a related field, and a minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives
  • Commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school graduation, bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with clinical populations, such as people with clinical depression or bipolar disorder
  • Experience with computers, computer software, and online databases
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
