Job Summary

The University Health Network is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory Medicine Program. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing venipuncture and ECG on inpatients throughout the UHN's Rehabilitation and Complex Care sites.

About the Role

This is a permanent part-time position working 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will have a strong background in laboratory procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and ECG on inpatients
  • Organize and arrange transport of specimens
  • Practice and provide patient-centered care
  • Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
  • Participate in training of staff
  • Maintain adequate supply stocks
  • Adhere to safe working environment and comply with IPAC

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
  • Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program or recognized equivalent
  • OSMT or CSMLS license preferred
  • Minimum one year related work experience in a laboratory setting
  • Minimum one year recent work experience in venipuncture, ECG, and specimen management
  • Effective organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of appropriate behavior required working successfully in a diverse work group
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory
  • Computer literate in Windows-based applications
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
