Carpenter Position at IWK Health Centre

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our team at IWK Health Centre. As a Journeyman Carpenter, you will be responsible for maintaining, altering, and installing new and existing walls, doors, and ceilings. You will also build and repair cabinetry and millwork using hand and power tools.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform preventative maintenance duties on walls, ceilings, t-bar, doors, hardware, windows, and frames.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
- Build cabinetry and repair existing walls and ceilings.
- Assist in minor construction and renovation projects by building new walls and ceilings.
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes using measuring tools.
- Fits and installs trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding, and hardware.
- Replaces window glass and frames.
- Repairs, alters, and removes shelving units.
- Reads and interprets drawings, sketches, blueprints, and specifications.
- Completes reports to create maintenance records.
- Operates, uses, and maintains tools and equipment safely, economically, and in accordance with trade practices.
- Participates in training and orientation of new staff and others as required.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Certified Journeyman Carpenter as issued by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour or equivalent required.
- Two (2) years' of related experience required.
- Knowledge of the current edition of National Building Code.
- Ability to work both in a team and independently.
- Ability to react effectively to emergencies or other changes in work environment that require immediate re-prioritizing of tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, blueprints, and specifications.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures and policies.
- Ability to recognize and appropriately react to potential dangers.
- Ability to follow instructions and work processes.
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
