About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Perinatal Social Worker to join our team at the IWK Health Centre. As a key member of our Women's & Newborn Health Program, you will provide social work services and family-centered care to individuals and families experiencing physical, mental, or social complexities in pregnancy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide situational mental health support, crisis intervention, psychosocial support, discharge planning, and resource counseling to individuals and families.
  • Work collaboratively with an interprofessional team to provide trauma-responsive, culturally safe care and grief/loss support.
  • Liaise with community, health, and government services to build collaborative partnerships and facilitate resource acquisition.
  • Supervise clinical MSW student placements, teach, and participate in program development, evaluation, and research as needed.
Requirements
  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Current license, or eligible for licensure, as a Registered Social Worker with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related professional experience as a Masters prepared Social Worker is preferred.
  • Knowledge of obstetric milestones, life transitions, mental health & addictions, intimate partner violence, and women's health required.
  • Advanced Psychotherapy skills (including brief therapies and grief counseling) and knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act are essential.
