Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Operations Specialist to join our team at Bridgemans Services Group. As a Marine Operations Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient handling of mooring lines to secure ships during berthing and unberthing operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mooring Line Preparation: Assist in preparing messenger lines and reels, including checking their condition, length, and appropriate attachment to bollards or cleats on the dock or ship.
  • Mooring Line Handling: Safely handle mooring lines to secure ships to the dock during berthing and unberthing, following company procedure and safety protocols.
  • Communication and Coordination: Maintain communication with the ship's bridge crew and line handling supervisor to coordinate mooring operations, including signaling for line handling maneuvers.
  • Mooring Line Maintenance: Regularly inspect mooring/messenger lines, bollards, cleats, hydraulic capstans, and related equipment for damage, wear, and report any issues for maintenance or repair.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to assist in emergency situations, such as sudden weather changes or vessel malfunctions, by quickly releasing or adjusting mooring lines as directed.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines for line handling operations, including wearing appropriate PPE, company uniforms, and participating in safety drills/training.
  • Additional Duties: Assist with other dock operations as required.
Requirements
  • Experience: Previous experience in ship mooring operations or maritime roles.
  • Training: On-job training may be provided.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and handling heavy mooring lines and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills to coordinate with bridge crews, port personnel, and fellow line handlers.
  • Safety Knowledge: Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures for maritime operations with a focus on preventing accidents and injuries.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to ensure mooring lines are properly secured and maintained.
  • Certifications: Additional certificates or training in line handling, maritime safety, or related areas may be required.
  • Availability: Ability to work flexible hours and rotation schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as operations may operate on a 24/7 schedule.
  • Eligibility: All candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
