Salary Range: CA$ 500 to 600 per day
The Company
Bridgemans Marine Transport (BMT) is a fully integrated marine service provider, equipped with marine certified crew and a fleet of unique assets servicing industrial projects around the world. Bridgemans and Haisla First Nation have created a joint venture limited partnership -Bridgemans Kitamaat Joint Venture Limited Partnership (BKJV) to provide marine and construction services to various industries on the Pacific Northcoast.
The Opportunity
The Marine Captain is responsible for the safety of the crew and the efficient use of the Safety and Security Vessel as part of the tanker line handling and LNG loading activities. The Captain ensures the safety of life, the vessel, and the prevention of marine pollution while working within the established health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures of the Company.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Ensure the vessel is operated in a safe manner in accordance with all Transport Canada and CSA regulations and requirements.
- Ensure the vessel is operated with a focus on efficiency, minimizing fuel and supplies waste during operations.
- Ensure compliance with local project rules as issued by the client, operate the vessel in full compliance with regulatory, seafaring standard operating procedures and policies.
- Ensure that the vessel has the required inventory of fuel and ship spares.
- Complete pre-departure checks and inspections at regular intervals.
- Provide daily reports for each vessel on fuel, labour, and other requirements as per policy and client billing, including damage and incident reporting.
- Complete all handover logs, documents, reports, and action requests and ensure vessel handover is completed with the incoming captain and crew at the end of the shift.
- Oversee and assist with day-to-day general maintenance.
- Ensure the safety, health, and welfare of all crew and passengers on board.
- Ensure crew levels are sufficient for successful operations pursuant to Safe Manning for the vessel.
- Provide verbal and written performance reviews of all crew to the supervisor in support of the performance management of the crew.
- Support the skills development of the crew, ensuring adequate support, training, and development of additional competencies by acting as a mentor for the crew.
- Maintain a positive tone within the team and work cooperatively through personal behavior, work contribution, and the sharing of expertise and knowledge.
- Act as an ambassador for Bridgemans in all dealings with the public, management, and team members.
Qualifications
- Three (3) years of relevant experience preferred.
- Valid Transport Canada – SVOP or 60T + COC
- Valid Seafarers Medical certificate
- Valid MED/STCW certificates
- ROC-MC
- Marine Basic or Advanced First Aid
- Bridge watch rating, SVMO, and Simulated electronic navigation Limited are all considered an asset.
- Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.
- Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal)
Working Conditions
- Repetitive, physical activity involved (walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting)
- Lifting light to medium weight (up to 20 too 50lbs)
- Exposure to environmental elements including extreme weather conditions.
