About the Role

The Vessel Maintenance Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of maintenance and engineering requirements of all HaiSea Marine vessels. This role will oversee vessel engineering and maintenance management, ensuring that project schedules and cost requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that vessel maintenance programs are running in accordance with company policy.
  • Manage the port engineering team, ensuring that all maintenance activities are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Respond to and coordinate responses to unscheduled maintenance activities for HSM vessels.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance activities for HSM vessels.
  • Develop and manage approved annual maintenance and engineering budgets.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to develop and present annual budgets.
  • Manage capital projects, including additions and alterations, for existing fleet vessels.
  • Manage docking planning and execution for existing fleet vessels.
  • Plan crewing for onboard engineers.
  • Develop and implement class-approved maintenance programs, as well as policy and procedure manuals for new vessels.
  • Manage port engineering teams and ensure that vessel maintenance programs are running in accordance with company policy.
  • Liaise with the Operations Manager and Commercial Managers to ensure that all crews and stakeholders have sufficient training.
  • Provide leadership to the team, with a focus on safe operation and minimizing lost-time injuries.
  • Investigate all machinery and equipment failures to determine the cause and make recommendations to prevent similar occurrences.
  • Assist in composing and monitoring annual budgets for maintenance and repair of vessel hull, machinery, and equipment, as well as capital spending related to new vessels.
  • Stay up-to-date with new construction and building techniques, propulsion technology, and legislative changes that may impact operations.
  • Represent HaiSea Marine at maritime-related conferences.
  • Provide technical assistance for HSM projects as needed, including planning, workforce requirements, material quantities, equipment needs, and work schedules.
  • Ensure familiarity with company policies and all applicable legislation and statutory requirements in the areas of employment and workplace protections.
  • Assist with hands-on maintenance activities as needed.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline or successful completion of an apprenticeship program qualifying the individual as a Power, Stationary, or Marine Engineer.
  • Marine Certificate of Competency preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of supervisory experience in progressively senior positions in a mechanical repair environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Supervisory or management training is desirable.
  • Technical skills, ability to read and interpret complex technical specifications and drawings.
  • Knowledge of vessel hull, machinery, and equipment repair.
  • Understanding of all applicable legislation, acts, and regulations for marine operations.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and exercise sound judgment under time pressure.
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Project and program management skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate people through work and gain their respect and trust.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and transfer knowledge to other team members.

The estimated salary for this position is $135,000 – $165,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors, including the successful candidate's skillset and experience, as well as position location and internal equity.
