About the Role

Reporting to the Instrument and Controls team lead the instrumentation specialist is a member of the Technical Support Organization for the Operations Team.

Reporting to the Instrument and Controls team lead the instrumentation specialist is a member of the Technical Support Organization for the Operations Team. This role will be mentor and coach to a small team that includes new Graduate Instrumentation EIT and other instrumentation professionals.

You will use your expertise to: 

During the Commissioning, Start-Up, and Ramp-Up:

Collaborative Engagement: Work closely with our Technical Support, Maintenance, Technology, Commercial, and Production Teams to cultivate a cohesive and strong operations culture.Field Instrumentations: Skill in Radar Level, LNG Tank Gauging, MOV’s, Control Valves, ESD Valves, Assurance and Quality: Ensure that EPC deliverables align with the Lump Sum Contract, Project Standards, Industry Best Practices, and operational readiness requirements through thorough site assurance activities.Punch Listing: Oversee punch listing at handover, ensuring alignment with A, B, and C punch items.Digital Integration: Lead the integration of digital and data solutions to foster continuous improvement and future-proof our business operations.Maintenance Excellence: Develop and refine maintenance procedures and guidelines based on real-world site experiences during the CSU phases and the initial operational period.Issue Resolution: Proactively address NCRs for items not meeting EPC deliverables, ensuring robust mitigation plans.Risk Management: Initiate MTOs and MOCs with comprehensive risk assessments and mitigation plans to address potential HSSE, reliability, and operability concerns.
 Unified Teamwork:  Collaborate with the EPC and site construction teams to promote a unified "One Team" mindset and a culture of learning.Innovation and Improvement: Identify and capitalize on opportunities for advanced diagnostic alerts, failure mode prediction, and digitalization.CSU Support: Provide backup support for other PACO leads during CSU activities, ensuring seamless operations.Digital Development: Assist the digital team in developing innovative solutions and supporting the RCM process.Visionary Leadership: Drive the vision for a connected and augmented workforce at LNG Canada.Integration Role: Serve as the integrator across all PACO functions during CSU and the initial start-up period.Safety Assurance: Ensure that asset delivery meets pre-start-up safety requirements (PSSR).

During the OPERATE Phase:

Ground Support: Guide the Instrumentation team in executing preventative and corrective maintenance, providing critical feedback to the CMMS team.Safety Leadership: Exemplify excellent HSSE compliance behaviors and ensure adherence to the MOC process when necessary.Field Investigations: Conduct field investigations for any instrumentation failures leading to plant upsets, trips, or malfunctions.Expertise and Validation: Act as the SME for PM & CMs, validating alternative mitigations if SCE PMs are delayed.Health and Maintenance: Oversee the health and maintenance of field instrumentation for major rotating equipment, including LMS-100, BOG Compressors, and Expander.Turnaround Planning: Plan and execute both planned and unplanned TAs and mini-TAs, ensuring full alignment with the TA organization.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that Marine Loading Arms (MLA) meet HSSE compliance and regulatory requirements.Continuous Improvement: Capture and implement lessons learned and continuous improvement opportunities from instrumentation and control functions.Performance Excellence: Foster a learner mindset to achieve best-in-class performance, leveraging technology and data.Team Connectivity: Bridge gaps between teams, articulating opportunities, supporting solution delivery, and championing change.Technological Leverage: Utilize technologies such as AI, automation, robotics, and data analytics to provide actionable insights and value generation.Digital World Navigation: Navigate the complexities of the digital world, applying data analytics, automation, IoT, and AI concepts.Interface Management: Work effectively across organizational and geographic boundaries.

To be successful, you will have: 

A university degree or diploma in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering/technology or Electrical Engineering/technology.12-15+ years of progressive technical experience in instrumentation and controls in an operated Oil & Gas/LNG industry experience Demonstrated technical problem solving experienceEGBC Professional Engineering Designation or eligibility to register.Proven safety leadership and a solid understanding of HSSE requirements.Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.Expertise in Field Instrumentation, including Foundation Fieldbus (FF) and HART technologies.Ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements (e.g., DEP, IEC, ISA, API, ANSI).Skills to perform detailed calculations for instrument sizing and selection (e.g., control valves, level Instruments, flow meters, pressure, temperature primary elements and transmitters.Interface with other engineering disciplines (process, electrical, mechanical) to ensure cohesive and participate in team’s review.Conduct technical evaluations and assessments of vendor proposals and assist in the procurement process.Oversee the installation, calibration, and testing of instrumentation and control systems.Participate in HAZOPs, SIL assessments, and other safety-related reviews.Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and startup phases.Develop and implement maintenance and reliability strategies for instrumentation systems.Experience with mentoring junior and provide technical guidance to maintenance teams. Create work instructions and procedures for instrumentation as needed.Analyzers’ knowledge is an added advantage.Experience with PACO Standards and Industry Best Practices.Ability to support and sustain change with minimal supervision.Strong networking and relationship-building skills.Proficiency in computer applications such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Primavera, Visio, and SAP.A continuous improvement mindset and a collaborative team spirit.

This role requires that you:

Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit) Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace).
