About the Role

The Health and Safety Manager will provide expert guidance and support to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors at PET VALU distribution centers. This role will drive the development and implementation of occupational health and safety initiatives, policies, and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and reduce risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Governance
    • Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on health and safety matters.
    • Lead by example and promote a positive safety culture within the organization.
  • Risk Management and Compliance
    • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to reduce workplace hazards.
    • Monitor and report on health and safety metrics and trends.
    • Ensure compliance with provincial, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Training and Development
    • Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for employees and contractors.
    • Conduct job hazard analyses and develop training materials to address specific workplace hazards.
    • Partner with the Learning department to develop and deliver training programs.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate health and safety information to employees, management, and stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with HR Generalists and department managers to address health and safety concerns and develop solutions.
    • Partner with labour inspectors and regulatory agencies to resolve health and safety concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or related field.
  • CRSP, CHSC, or similar designation an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a health and safety role, preferably in retail, food service, hospitality, or similar environment.
  • Experience in the distribution center/logistics/transportation industry an asset.

  • Experience with assessing job hazards and completing accident investigations.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters regarding security or personnel issues.
  • Experience with Canadian health and safety regulations.
