Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Metal Process Specialist to join our team at Rio Tinto's BC Works in Kitimat, BC.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a technical professional with a passion for metals and materials processing to contribute to our modernized aluminium smelter.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on process performance, identifying and correcting process deviations, and driving process improvements.

This role offers a great opportunity for a curious and team-oriented individual to gain valuable experience, develop their technical skills, and contribute to a culture of safety, collaboration, and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Rio Tinto's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards while actively engaging in our culture of care, courage, and curiosity.
  • Monitor and report on process performance, identify and correct process deviations, and drive process improvements.
  • Lead and/or support projects to improve safety, process, and cost performance, ensuring maximum value delivery to the organization.
  • Support operations personnel in day-to-day problem-solving and ensure the impact on process stability is considered in all decision-making.
  • Support operations personnel in developing and maintaining their technical expertise, including training and coaching where required.
  • Interact with our global network of technical experts to bring additional expertise to bear when required and drive plant performance.
  • Provide occasional technical support outside of normal working hours.
Requirements
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Process Control, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or Metallurgy.
  • Registered or eligible for immediate registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
  • A proven aptitude for problem-solving and statistical data analysis.
  • At least two years of industrial work experience.
  • Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills – ability to communicate complex technical information simply and succinctly.
  • Minimum of a valid Class 7 (or equivalent) driver's license required.
