Business Intelligence Developer, Information and Communications Technology Specialist

Job Summary:

The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly skilled Business Intelligence Developer to join our team. As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will play a key role in collaborating with business stakeholders to understand their information needs and develop reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders to define management and strategic reporting requirements, develop report and data visualization prototypes, and address data quality issues.
  • Design and Development: Create and implement business intelligence solutions, including data models, reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Microsoft Fabric, SQL, SSIS, and Power BI.
  • ETL Processes: Design, develop, and test extract-transform-load (ETL) processes to integrate data into the institutional data warehouse, monitor and troubleshoot nightly ETL jobs, and resolve performance or data load issues.
  • Data Governance and Security: Ensure compliance with data governance policies and security standards, implement access controls, data encryption, and data masking techniques to protect sensitive information, and collaborate with data managers and data stewards to standardize business terms, define and classify data, and establish access and information requirements.
  • Documentation: Develop and post documentation for customized tasks, procedures, and services related to your work.
  • Communication: Provide regular updates to the manager and the team on progress, emerging issues, and new opportunities.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay current with the latest trends and advancements in business intelligence and participate in training opportunities as directed by your manager.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties or projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline. Additional professional training in data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics, or business analysis is a plus.
  • Five years of solid experience with data integration, data warehousing, or business intelligence.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in SQL and database technologies such as SQL Server.
  • Strong experience in ETL development using tools such as SSIS or Fabric.
  • Strong experience with data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling.
  • Experience with reporting and data visualization tools such as SSRS and Power BI.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
