Job Summary
The School Secretary plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operation of the school. Reporting to the administrative team, this position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure seamless interactions with staff, students, parents, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
The School Secretary is responsible for:
- Welcoming and directing visitors to the appropriate staff or service;
- Answering and forwarding telephone calls, taking messages, and scheduling appointments;
- Performing general clerical duties, including responding to inquiries and requests for information;
- Distributing and circulating documents throughout the year;
- Providing administrative support to the school staff, including maintenance of records, operation of office equipment, and answering telephones;
- Maintaining confidentiality of records and personal information.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess:
- A High School Diploma and two (2) years of relevant work experience;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to learn and apply computer skills, including spreadsheet, database, word-processing, scheduler, and email;
- Organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems within the scope of the job.
Working Environment
This position is part of the Government of Northwest Territories and requires the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively.
