Utilities Maintenance Specialist

The City of Port Coquitlam's Public Works Department is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to provide maintenance and construction services for the City's utilities and related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual tasks in the maintenance and construction of municipal utilities, including water, sewer, and drainage service connections and disconnections, water main tie-ins, hydrant installations, and blow-off replacements.
  • Complete work records, parts lists, and related reports as required.
  • Maintain tools and equipment related to the work.
  • Operate Class 5 vehicles in the performance of duties.
  • Supervise tradespersons and other junior crew positions as required.
  • Perform all work safely and complete necessary safety documentation and briefings.

Requirements:

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain clear, concise reports and work records.
  • Ability to read, understand, and carry out work according to sketches and blueprints.
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related technical courses, plus considerable experience in civil construction, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia – Class 5.
  • EOCP Wastewater Collection Level II or equivalent.
  • EOCP Water Distribution Level II or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in utilities work.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement. The annual rate of pay starts at $40.38/hour (2024 rates) and includes a comprehensive benefits package upon completion of a four-month probation period.
