The City of Port Coquitlam's Public Works Department is looking for a positive, self-motivated person to provide maintenance and construction for the City's utilities and related infrastructure. Duties include utility repairs, servicing, and construction as it relates to hydrants, valves, backflow prevention devices, inspection chambers, manholes, mains, and meters.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to:Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual tasks in the maintenance and construction of municipal utilities which includes, completing water, sewer and drainage service connections and disconnections, as well as water main tie-ins, hydrant installations, blow-off replacements etc., and may also complete water main and water service repairs, sewer main and sewer service repair and storm main and storm service repairs Completes work records, parts lists and related reports as requiredMaintains tools and equipment related to the workOperates Class 5 vehicles in performance of dutiesSupervises tradespersons and other junior crew positions as requiredPerforms all work safely and completes, when required, necessary safety documentation and briefings
The successful candidate for this position will have:Ability to perform heavy manual labour in all weather conditionsAbility to prepare and maintain clear concise reports and work recordsAbility to read, understand and carry out work according to sketches and blueprints Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related technical, courses, plus considerable experience in civil construction, or an equivalent combination of training and experienceDriver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia – Class 5EOCP Wastewater Collection Level II or equivalentEOCP Water Distribution Level II or equivalentThorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the Utilities work

The terms and conditions of employment for this assignment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement. The annual rate of pay starts at $40.38/hour (2024 rates) and includes a comprehensive benefits package upon completion of a four-month probation period.
