Health Equity Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Equity Consultant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. The successful candidate will provide advanced knowledge, leadership, and coordination for Public Health Western Zone workforce development in the area of health equity.
The Health Equity Consultant will strengthen the understanding and application of health equity principles, evidence, tools, best practices, and supports to build a culture of health equity within public health practice.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health promotion, public health, or a related field, with a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience. They will possess excellent leadership skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, build strategic partnerships, and contribute to performance development and assessment of staff.
The Health Equity Consultant will be accountable for providing expert-level advice, evidence, and best practices on advancing the understanding of health equity and health disparities. They will also provide guidance, direction, and advice to staff and teams to assist them in the application of health equity tools and methods.
The successful candidate will be a strong collaborator, able to work effectively with a team to develop plans to strengthen the capacity of public health staff in the zone to apply principles of health equity for social change and better health outcomes for Nova Scotians.
The Health Equity Consultant will also be responsible for coordinating local projects, initiatives, and teams working on health equity and action to address disparities. They will influence community health board plans to address health equity issues and may participate in the development of funding proposals for research or other projects related to health equity.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of oppression as a social determinant of health and awareness and study of one's own power and privilege. They will also have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders using a variety of methods.
