Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Judicial Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to up to five Justices of the Court of King's Bench. As a key member of the court team, you will be responsible for managing calendars, scheduling appointments, and coordinating travel arrangements. You will also be responsible for typing, formatting, editing, and proofreading judgments, as well as researching and verifying case and statute citations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage calendars and schedule appointments for Justices
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and prepare material for court hearings
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Establish and maintain hard-copy and electronic filing systems
  • Handle incoming telephone inquiries and mail
  • Coordinate meetings and conferences
  • Schedule judicial assignments
  • Perform backup duties for other Judicial Assistants
  • Perform other related administrative tasks as requested

Requirements

  • Two-year diploma in a related field (e.g., Legal Assistant, Legal Administration, and Paralegal)
  • At least one year progressively responsible related experience
  • Ability to communicate in French and English fluently (orally and in writing)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated and creative in managing multiple projects with competing deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Judicial Assistant supporting three or more Justices or Judges
  • Previous experience as an Executive Assistant supporting three or more Executives
  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant supporting three or more Lawyers
  • Legal Assistant diploma
  • Experience working in a Court environment, preferably with the Court of King's Bench
  • Experience working in a M365 environment
  • Experience using, applying, and understanding legal terminology
