Materials Engineering Faculty Member

We are seeking a highly qualified faculty member to join our Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta. This tenure-track position will be filled at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank with a focus on bioprocessing and biomanufacturing.
The successful candidate will have research experience in bioprocessing of biologics, vaccines, biofuels, specialty chemicals, and other bioproducts, environmental bioprocesses, processes for cell therapy, metabolic/enzymatic engineering, and cellular agriculture. Additional expertise in bioseparations is an asset.
About the RoleThis faculty member will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate students in materials engineering, conducting research in bioprocessing and biomanufacturing, and contributing to departmental service. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of research productivity, effective teaching skills, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities- Teaching (40%): Develop and teach courses in materials engineering, supervise students conducting research, and provide academic advising.
- Research (40%): Conduct research in bioprocessing and biomanufacturing, secure funding from granting agencies or other sources, and disseminate research results through publications and conference presentations.
- Service (20%): Contribute to departmental governance, participate in university service, and engage in professional development opportunities.
- Ph.D. in Materials Engineering or a related field.
- Postdoctoral research experience in bioprocessing and biomanufacturing.
- A strong track record of research productivity, including publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
- Effective teaching skills, including experience developing and instructing courses in materials engineering.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and industry partners.
- Experience with interdisciplinary research projects, including collaborations with industry and community partners.
- Grant application and financial management experience.
- Industry experience in engineering, trades, sciences, and technology industries.
The estimated salary for this position is $120,000-$180,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
