Water Quality Modeling Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Quality Modeling Expert to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our water quality team, you will be responsible for leading and directing water quality modeling and assessment work, primarily in the Canadian mining sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and review proposed scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for water quality and environmental assessment projects
  • Manage individual and team workload, and identify staffing lists for each project
  • Develop, direct, and oversee the execution of model development, calibration, and validation, as well as technical reports, memoranda, presentations, and other project deliverables
  • Oversee project plans and assessment approaches, and ensure that models and other project deliverables meet quality expectations
  • Manage, analyze, and interpret measured and modeled data, and provide oversight and quality control for data collection, management, and analysis
  • Work with multi-disciplinary project teams to acquire environmental permits, water licenses, and approvals from regulatory agencies
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior and intermediate staff to develop their skill sets, including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills
  • Actively promote a culture of health and safety
  • Take an active role in developing and maintaining client relationships and business development opportunities
Requirements:
  • University degree (M.Sc. or higher preferred) in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience or equivalent in water quality modeling, with knowledge of more than one software modeling package
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams and delivering work products in a timely fashion, ideally within a consulting environment
  • Previous experience in dealing with regulatory processes
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management and technical skills
