Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Water Quality Modeler to join our team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our water quality team, you will be responsible for leading and directing water quality modelling and assessment work, primarily in the Canadian mining sector.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a seasoned professional to take on a leadership role in our water quality team. You will be responsible for overseeing staff working to complete large-scale projects, many of which will involve interactions with other disciplines. Work products will include models, reports, regulatory submissions, and other similar deliverables, as well as responding to client, regulatory, and stakeholder inquiries, questions, and comments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and review proposed scopes of work, schedules, and budgets related to the completion of water quality and environmental assessment projects
Work with others to manage individual and overall team workload, as well as identify staffing lists for each project
Develop, direct, and oversee the execution of model development, calibration, and validation, technical reports, memoranda, presentations, and other project deliverables
Oversee project plans and assessment approaches
Oversee multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule expectations, with responsibility for models and other project deliverables meeting expectations for quality
Manage, analyze, and interpret measured and modelled data, and provide oversight and quality control for data collection, management, and analysis
Work with multi-disciplinary project teams to acquire environmental permits, water licences, and approvals from regulatory agencies
Supervise, train, and mentor junior and intermediate staff to develop their skill sets, including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills
Actively promote a culture of health and safety
Take an active role in developing and maintaining client relationships and business development opportunities

Requirements

A university degree (M.Sc. or higher preferred) in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar
Minimum of 10 years of experience or equivalent
Proven experience in the field of water quality modelling, with knowledge of more than one software modelling package
Demonstrated experience in managing teams and delivering work products in a timely fashion, ideally within a consulting environment
Previous experience in dealing with regulatory processes
Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Demonstrated project management and technical skills
