Job Summary:

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Intake Worker to join our team. As an Intake Worker, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents, while also providing exceptional support and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake interviews and orientations to assess residents' needs and ensure a smooth transition into our facility.
  • Monitor residents' daily activities and provide personal, practical, and morale support as needed.
  • Accurately record day-to-day happenings and maintain logbooks to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries regarding accommodation availability and provide information to residents and stakeholders.
  • Perform regular internal and external security checks to ensure the safety and security of our residents and staff.
  • Assist with domestic duties, such as meal preparation and light cleaning, to maintain a clean and comfortable living environment.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time position working 42 hours per week from 11:00pm-7:00am.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • A Social Services Worker or Community Worker diploma/certificate or equivalent with some experience in frontline work in a social service setting.
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR.
  • Crisis intervention training is an asset.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to connect residents with relevant services.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Comfortable working with women from diverse backgrounds and providing individualized support.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with residents, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team during shifts and physically able to perform walkabouts of the site.
  • Good concentration skills to continuously monitor the environment, security cameras, and attentiveness when interacting with residents and recording information.
  • Willingness to accept the Code of Conduct required for those working at The Salvation Army and undergo applicable screening and background checks.
  • Ability to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
