About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Character Modeller to join our team at Jobs for Humanity. As a key member of our art team, you will be responsible for guiding and supporting a talented team of character modellers in creating high-quality 3D characters for our games.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Oversee and support a team of character modellers, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure the delivery of high-quality work.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with other art leads and the art director to discuss and develop the game vision, ensuring that all character art is aligned with the project's artistic direction.
  • Task Management: Organize and run regular team meetings to assign tasks, establish priorities, and discuss progress.
  • Quality Control: Balance artistic aspects with technical constraints, maintaining quality and performance standards (poly count, memory, etc.).
  • Feedback and Review: Provide constructive feedback to develop a consistent, quality visual style, and review integrated work to ensure it meets the artistic direction and can animate well.
  • Professional Development: Stay up to date on best practices to keep up with the industry, and participate in recruitment to build and grow your character modelling team.
Requirements
  • Education: A college diploma in 3D Modelling, Fine Art, or equivalent (undergraduate degree an asset).
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in modelling, texturing, or other relevant experience (leadership an asset).
  • Skills: Knowledge of 2D art tools (e.g. Photoshop) and 3D software (3DS Max, Maya, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, and ZBrush), solid understanding of topology, materials, textures, proportion, and anatomy, animation and game limitations.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent mentorship, communication, organization, time management, interpersonal, and presentation skills, flexibility, and a whole lot of resourcefulness.
