Job Overview


As a seasoned professional, you will play a pivotal role in driving commercialization success at the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine. This esteemed institution is renowned for its world-class talent, interdisciplinary excellence, and meaningful collaboration.


The ideal candidate will possess exceptional relationship management and business development skills, with a proven track record of identifying and building strong partnerships with corporations, philanthropic organizations, and government agencies. They will also cultivate and build cross-disciplinary research collaborations, manage and promote corporate and community partnerships across the campus, and provide strategic leadership and counsel to the decanal team on all commercialization and industry partnership activities.


Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and implement commercialization and partnership programs, leveraging expertise in contract negotiation, intellectual property management, and research funding opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including research hospitals, commercialization partners, and the central university's intellectual property office.
  • Manage multiple complex projects, ensuring timely completion and alignment with established goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and promote commercialization training initiatives, entrepreneurship programs, and startup support services.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the faculty, promoting a mindset that values risk-taking, creativity, and calculated experimentation.

Requirements



  • A PhD degree in molecular or cellular biology, infectious disease, immunology, biomedical or biochemical engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in leading and developing commercialization and partnership programs, preferably in a high-profile public institution.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing commercialization strategies, with a strong understanding of contracts, intellectual property, and research funding opportunities.
  • Experience managing complex relationships with diverse stakeholders, including research institutions, commercialization partners, and government agencies.
  • Strong financial acumen, including financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, with a strong focus on staff engagement and motivation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to various audiences.

Compensation Package


This exciting opportunity offers a competitive salary range of $130,011 - $151,679, reflecting the University of Toronto's commitment to attracting and retaining top talent.
